Water play has saved more “everyone’s losing it” afternoons than I can count. It’s calming, fun, and stupidly easy to set up—a bowl, a few cups, and a towel and we’re good. Our water play ideas work at the sink or in the garden, and the kids never seem to tire of them.
Outside we use a paddling pool or a big tray with cups, spoons, and plastic toys. Bubbles or a drop of food colouring if we’re feeling fancy. Watering plants together is a gentle way to be outside and “help.” Indoors: sink or shallow tub on a towel, pour from one container to another, add boats or figures. They experiment; we supervise. We always empty containers when we’re done and never leave a young child alone near water.
A change of clothes nearby is a given. A bit of mess is part of the deal—and in our house, usually worth it. You’ve got this.
