Indoor games for kids (no equipment needed)

When you’re stuck inside and everyone’s climbing the walls, a few go-to indoor games can save the day. We keep a mental list of games that need nothing more than us and the kids—no prep, no kit. Most of these work for a range of ages.

“I spy” and “Simon says” are classics for a reason. Guessing games—“I’m thinking of an animal” or “what’s in the box?”—build language and focus. Hide and seek in the house (with clear rules about where it’s safe to hide). For something calmer: “guess the object”—something in a bag, they feel it, no peeking. Building a den from blankets and chairs is an activity and a hideout; once it’s up we read a book inside or have a snack. Musical statues or freeze dance need only music—when it stops, everyone freezes. Simple, loud, and effective.

We aim for three or four games we can start in under a minute. When boredom strikes, we’re ready. You’ve got this.
