Quiet time

Bedtime can be a battle—we know. The hour before sleep works best for us when it’s predictable and calm. A few bedtime wind-down activities help our kids (and us) transition from day to sleep. Every family is different; this is what works at our house.

We dim the lights and avoid screens. Bath, pyjamas, then a story or two in a cosy spot. We let them choose the books when we can. Some nights we add a short “grateful” moment—one thing from the day—or a gentle song. Soft music or a night light signals that it’s sleep time. If they’re still wound up we try a very quiet game: “I spy” in the dark, or naming things we can hear. We keep our voice slow and calm. The goal is to slow down, not to add excitement. When the routine is consistent, their bodies learn that this sequence means sleep is coming.

Every child is different. Some need more time, some less. Adjust to fit your family and keep it simple. You’re doing great.
